Be that as it may, this method is utilized in differing ways as indicated by the prerequisite and levels of the blaze memory and to improve its strength in regard to the memory space in the unit. It draws out the administration life of memory drives and cooks stockpiling issues of impermanent memory (Compardo et al, 2014, 309). Otherwise called an illocutionary functionâ or illocutionary point. In Syntax: Structure, Meaning, and Function (1997), Van Vallin and LaPolla express that illocutionary power alludes to whether an articulation is a statement, an inquiry, an order or an outflow of a desire. These are various sorts of illocutionary power, which implies that we can discuss inquisitive illocutionary power, basic illocutionary power, optative illocutionary power, and explanatory illocutionary power. The terms illocutionary act and illocutionary power were presented by British etymological savant John L. Austin in How to Do Things With Words (1962). Models and Observations Illocutionary Act and Illocutionary Force [A]n illocutionary act alludes to the kind of capacity a speaker expects to achieve throughout creating an expression. It is a demonstration achieved in talking and characterized inside an arrangement of social shows. Hence, if John says to Mary Pass me the glasses, if you don't mind he plays out the illocutionary demonstration of mentioning or requesting Mary to hand the glasses over to him. The capacities or activities just referenced are additionally alluded to as the illocutionary power or illocutionary purpose of the discourse demonstration. The illocutionary power of a discourse demonstration is the impact a discourse demonstration is proposed to have by a speaker. To be sure, the term discourse act in its thin sense is regularly taken to allude explicitly to illocutionary act.(Yan Huang, The Oxford Dictionary of Pragmatics. Oxford University Press, 2012) Illocutionary Force Indicating Devices There are various gadgets used to demonstrate how an illocutionary power must be deciphered. For instance, Open the entryway and Could you open the entryway have the equivalent propositional content (open the entryway), yet they speak to various illocutionary acts-a request and a solicitation individually. These gadgets that guide the listener in recognizing the illocutionary power of the articulation are alluded to as the illocutionary power demonstrating gadgets or IFIDs [also called illocutionary power markers]. Performative action words, state of mind, word request, sound, stress are instances of IFIDs.(Elizabeth Flores Salgado,à The Pragmatics of Requests and Apologies. John Benjamins, 2011) I may show the sort of illocutionary act I am performing by starting the sentence with I am sorry, I caution, I state, and so forth. Frequently, in real discourse circumstances, the setting will clarify what the illocutionary power of the articulation is, without its being important to summon the proper unequivocal illocutionary power indicator.(John R. Searle,à Speech Acts: An Essay in the Philosophy of Language. Cambridge University Press, 1969) I Was Just Saying That Kenneth Parcell: Im sorry, Mr. Jordan. Im just exhausted. With my page obligations and being Mr. Donaghys colleague, theres insufficient hours in the day.Tracy Jordan: Im sorry about that. Be that as it may, simply let me know whether theres any way I can help.Kenneth: Actually, there is one thing...Tracy: No! I was trying to say that! Why cant you read human facial prompts (Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan, Cutbacks. 30 Rock, April 9, 2009) Commonsense Competence Accomplishing commonsense capability includes the capacity to comprehend the illocutionary power of an articulation, that is, the thing that a speaker expects by making it. This is especially significant in culturally diverse experiences since a similar structure (for example When are you leaving?) can fluctuate in its illocutionary power contingent upon the setting in which it is made (for example May I have a ride with you? or on the other hand Dont you think it is the ideal opportunity for you to go?).(Sandra Lee McKay, Teaching English as an International Language. Oxford University Press, 2002) What I Really Mean At the point when I state how are you to a collaborator, I truly mean hi. In spite of the fact that I realize what I mean by how are you, it is conceivable that the beneficiary doesn't realize that I mean hi and really continues to give me a fifteen-minute talk on his different maladies.(George Ritzer, Sociology: A Multiple Paradigm Science. Early Italian Renaissance Art Florentine vs. Sienese Art Essay Example For Students
Early Italian Renaissance Art: Florentine versus Sienese Art Essay During the thirteenth and fourteenth hundreds of years, a change happened in Italy concerning society, financial aspects, governmental issues, and religion. One of the central point that prompted such a change was the move from a cultivating society to a culture of industry overwhelmed by dealers. This prompted a urban economy, the development of urban areas, and the adjustment of government to suit the developing populace. Also, Christian organizations, for example, the Franciscans and the Dominicans started to frame, upholding new strict methods of reasoning including carrying confidence to the majority. This desire of change in the economy and in sorted out religion realized an expansion in the creation of craftsmanship. The formation of works of art turned into a regarded industry, and specialists increased more regard according to Italian residents. Normally, a large portion of the craftsmanship that was delivered was strict in nature, and was viewed as a component for outwardly speaking to confidence in an increasingly substantial way. During this dynamic period, masterful styles started to change also. A change from medieval, Byzantine craftsmanship to an increasingly naturalistic, humanistic style happened in Italy. This included n increment in dramatization and feeling in workmanship and a restoration of Classical structures and goals, prompting the assignment of the period as the Renaissance, which means resurrection. Two opponent schools of painting, Siena and Florence, rose to the cutting edge of this change during the beginnings of the Renaissance. In his Lives of the Artists, Vassar signifies the fundamental defenders of the developments in Siena and Florence to be Disco did Obnoxiousness and Ghetto did Bonded, separately. Vassar saw Disco, called the Father of the Senses Renaissance by numerous craftsmanship students of history, as a very skilled craftsman who merits a lot of regard and thought. He acknowledges Disco for starting another period in feel described by a mix of the old style with new strategies, for example, displaying with chiaroscuro, a more prominent level of naturalism, progressively distinctive hues, and a profoundly respected technique for narrating. Disco utilized a few Classical and Byzantine shows, for example, a sparkling gold foundation, however implanted into that convention his own new complex strategies. Vassar incorporates among Discos numerous achievements his work in the Doom of Siena. He particularly praises Discos Coronation of Our Lady, which was recently found n the raised area of the Doom. Ghetto rose to popularity as the rule figure of the Florentine custom, and his specialized aptitude in the field of painting was perceived and adulated by his peers. Ghetto likewise consolidated a lot of humanism into his craft, in any event, painting a naturalistic scene and foundation in a significant number of his works. In examination with his works about Disco, Vicars portions in regards to Ghetto are significantly more noteworthy long and loaded up with substantially more deference, demonstrating his ties with the city of Florence. Vassar states that painters owe a similar obligation to Ghetto as they do to nature, OTOH of which fill in as outstanding models for imaginative motivation. He proceeds to state for such a large number of years by the vestiges of war, only he, albeit conceived among incompetent craftsmen, restored through Gods beauty what had fallen into a malevolent state and taken it back to such a structure, that it could be called acceptable. Vassar refers to many works by Ghetto, painted in different areas all through Italy. Among the most celebrated of these works are the fresco artistic creations in the houses of worship of Santa Crock in Florence and San Francesco in Chassis, just as in the Arena Chapel in Pads. Two artistic creations, the two of which portray a comparable strict occasion, precisely mirror the stories of the Senses and Florentine schools of painting. The first is Discos Triptych: the Crucifixion; the Redeemer with Angels; Saint Nicholas; Saint Gregory, painted from 1311 to 1318. The work that relates to the Florentine development, entitled The Crucifixion, was painted by a Master of the Robin Coronation during the asses. Despite the fact that this work isn't credited to Ghetto himself, it is a substantial portrayal of the Florentine school as the craftsman followed the custom started by Ghetto. As far as topic, the two works are visual portrayals of the torturous killing of Jesus Christ. In each painting, Christ is the focal figure, encompassed by two gatherings of figures. On the left, a gathering of ladies that incorporates the Virgin Mary grieves over the dead assemblage of Christ, while on the privilege is a gathering of officers and different mourns. The two works highlight a rough scene on which the figures are situated. Enclosing Christ are a few blessed messengers whose motions of languishment reverberation those of the figures beneath. Ornate Art case EssayIn terms of spatial arrangement, Disco painted his considers subsiding along with space on a somewhat raised rough scene. Since he intended to show the essences of the considerable number of characters, the figment of profundity is to some degree incorrect, and it is indistinct where the figures are standing. In spite of the fact that not scientifically exact, the endeavor by Disco to show retreating space is evident, in any case. In the execution scene by the Master of the Robin Coronation, the figures beneath Christ are on a generally even plane, maintaining a strategic distance from any equivocalness in spatial sythesis. The figures, set solidly on a rough scene, are likewise not scientifically characterized, yet the scene is obviously masterminded. Other than to all the more plainly separate the figures, the hues in every one of the execution scenes are utilized as images for thoughts established in Christian religious philosophy. Gold, a Senses custom that was utilized in Discos foundation and the radiances of the figures in the two works, speaks to heavenly nature. In Discos torturous killing scene, the gold gives the composition a pivoting air of blessedness, particularly when washed in light, and shows the eminent idea of the occasion. Be that as it may, the work of art by the Robin Master includes a blue the naturalism of the scene, featuring Chrisms humanness by putting him in a reasonable setting, while as yet keeping up his godlikeness. As in many strict scenes, the Virgin Mary is dressed in blue in the two works, representative of her sublime immaculateness. Moreover, the two craftsmen paint Jesus very pale with splendid red blood rising up out of his injuries, featuring his penance and recognizing his passing. Red pronunciations run all through each work, promoting the topic of celestial penance. Discos shading plan canine seen as more expressive than illustrative, in that it intends to introduce Chrisms torturous killing as a celestial occasion in an unreasonable gold setting. The other work, be that as it may, presents an illustrative shading plan, putting the scene in a progressively sensible setting. Additionally imperative are the estimations of the hues. Those in the work by the Master of Robin are more blunt and less striking. This makes a scene that is more serene and despairing than the one made by the dynamic shades of Disco. The lighting in the two artistic creations is consistent and doesn't seem to exude from an ingle source, diminishing the authenticity of the works. All figures and articles are completely washed in light, with next to no reference to shadows. In Discos work, the gold foundation causes a shining impact when trapped in the light, bringing about the sentiment of a radiant encounter when seen. The other artistic creation doesn't have this sparkling quality, and along these lines doesn't have a remarkable same awesome meaning. The materials of every work of art are boundlessly unique. Disco utilized gum based paint on wood board to make his triptych, while the Master of the Robin Coronation painted is work in fresco. This divider painting was later moved to canvas to show it in an exhibition hall. Gum based paint creates a lot better and more particular figures than do frescoes. What's more, Discos work includes considerably more striking hues, incorporating the gold punchbowl out of sight. This is evident in the absence of obvious brushstrokes, which creates tight, controlled structures, fresh light, and strong hues. The brushstrokes in the work of art by the Master of the Robin Coronation are marginally increasingly obvious, making figures that are more blunt and less clear, despite the fact that in no way, shape or form ill defined. What's more, enormous zones of harm are clear from the first fresco, especially in the lower right corner. As far as size, Discos work is extensively littler, as it was utilized as a private reverential picture. The triptych is just two feet high, while the other work of art is around eleven feet in stature. The amazing size of the last work was likely intended to underline the significance of the occasion and greaterly affect watchers, as it was put in an open church. Sometimes this notion is applied, to cleanly recognize the multicultural character of a civilization. All at once, this is a politic principle, and a definite plan of actions resulting from it, which provides for precise politic tools to defend the above mentioned multiplicity and keep the concerns of definite unities of the general public. Multiculturalism may as well be explained as a strategy against integration. It implies that it is advisable to preserve the multiplicity of humanity, since this is a merit of its own accord. It is these two states that are regarded as "stories of success" of multiculturalism, though there are many critical voices from equally officials and specialists. Mostly it's about diversity in terms of race, gender and sexuality. The repetitive updating of the issue of multiculturalism, more recently, has been unequivocally associated with the migrant crisis, particularly in Europe. What effects would the arrival of an even greater amount of inhabitants appertaining to diverse ethnicities have in Europe, where up until now not all states have been competent to implement victorious incorporation plans? As a result, experts will need to return to the reflection on the pluses and minuses of multiculturalism over and over. Is an unbeaten strategy of multiculturalism feasible? What may influence the realization of the procedure of multiculturalism, and what led to its crash? Theorists and specialists here highlight a number of important circumstances. - First, the condition of national boundaries and their defense. In case the population does not suffer exterior dangers, the incorporation of cultures is a domestic affair and the task of the government. In this situation, one would actually talk about assimilation as pulling together of the public. Quite a dissimilar instance is when there is a powerful armed country in the neighborhood, declaring that it wishes to defend its compatriots, who in number constitute a considerable minority in the country. The state of affairs is even diverse when the border is trouble-free to cross, and behind it there is a great amount of individuals who can break it, if only because they possess no other way out. If you decide Im ready to pay someone to do my assignment to get an essay on this theme, we are here to complete your order. - Second, multiculturalism must be factual: it works better when there are many cultures. In bi-communal states it doesnt function, the same as in situations when nearly all settlers arrive from one area of the earth or even one state. This almost constantly results in the division of humanity and the opposition of concerns. The smoothing factor is the present multiplicity of ethnicities. - Third, the principle of multiculturalism suggests the equivalent contribution of different groups to the creation of a financial aggregate produce, or as a minimum a bona fide desire to do so. If in some component of the public there is a belief that "we earn their living", then this is a ticking bomb. And this attitude is simple to influence. Those students who need urgent essay help will find more essays on our website. - Fourth, one of the biggest dangers in multicultural states is the restriction of ethnicities, both by place of living, for instance, the residence of settlers in communes in major European megalopolises, and the lack of space for their language, public communications and study. Of course, eliminating these situations requires both pains and expenses. - Fifth, an accord on the totality of human liberties that is mandatory for all participants of the social order. This is a susceptible question, since in conventional ethnicities therere very different ideas about the importance of the person on the whole, and the liberties in particular, and they cannot be changed rapidly and easily. Some of these issues are discussed in college essays on freedom. Still, when there is no strong belief in the society that the rules of the road are identical for everybody, then shared reliance that is one of the most essential prerequisites for cohesion, will not rule in it. So, this post makes it feasible to realize why multiculturalism did not become a guiding principle doing well in Europe. Does this imply that this "plan" should be filed away in storage and forgotten? This is not simple to undertake, since aspects of multiculturalism, equally optimistic and unsafe, are still present. The Effects Of Increased Privatization Of Health Care On...
The World Bank (WB or Bank) has transformed from serving primarily to reconstruct post WWII Europe to the worldââ¬â¢s largest external funder of health due to the globalization movement. To the global South, the Bank will primarily be known by its controversial Structural Adjustment Programs (SAPs). This essay will examine the effects of increased privatization of health care in Africa as a result of loan conditionalities imposed by the Bank SAPs. Effects of SAPs on health and social determinants of health in African countries will be examined with the support of empirical data, followed by a possible explanation for lack of response from the Bank. An outline of existing and proposed alternative solutions will also be evaluated. Overview of SAPs SAPs are the result of the Bankââ¬â¢s increasing role in the health sector in the 1980s and 1990s. Conditional loans are given by the Bank to developing countries for ââ¬Å"policy adjustmentâ⬠in order to stimulate economic growth. Main principles of such SAPs include macroeconomic management and stability, trade liberalization, and public sector contraction (2), which entails decentralizing the government through privatization of state-owned enterprises, opening up markets for foreign trade, and reducing public sector (including health) budgets. Motives for such policy reform as stated by the Bank include: the need to address resources misallocation and insufficiency, equitable competition of health care through free market, and the need forShow MoreRelatedThe International Monetary Fund And The World Bank Were1419 Words à |à 6 Pagesglobal economic order. Professional Dress Code Essay - 1813 Words
Presentation of a Nurse: Professional Dress Code Nicole Davis St. Josephââ¬â¢s College of Nursing Presentation of a Nurse: Professional Dress Code One of the first things a patient sees when a nurse walks into their room is the expression on the nurseââ¬â¢s face and what the nurse is wearing. Everyone thinks of different attire when speaking of nurses: some think of the all-white uniforms with caps that needed to be starched, some may think of a person in scrubs, and few may think of risquà © Halloween costumes of nurses. Nursing, unlike many professions, cannot dress in business or business casual every day to show professionalism, instead many hospitals have mandatory dress codes including having nurses wearing scrubs instead. It putsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦(SJHHC, 2016) Employees should wear scrub tops over their t-shirts as well, which should be either white or the same color as the scrub top. Supporting Literature and Research Throughout many years, nurses have dressed in all white uniforms making these men and women easy to identify. Since switching to theses unstandardized uniforms, nurses no longer have the same message, some even stating that ââ¬Å"todayââ¬â¢s nonstandard nursing uniformsâ⬠¦ do not present a professional image and contribute to the patient, family, and other healthcare providerââ¬â¢s inability to identify the RN among other care providers.â⬠(Hatfield et al., 2013) As years advance though, many policies at hospitals will change and adapt with them. The Evolution Of Wordless Societies Essay - 1773 Words
The Evolution of Wordless Societies: From Ancient Egypt Hieroglyphics to Emojis Pictures have been around long before words as a means of communicating. From ancient to modern civilizations, pictures and symbols have been used to convey messages and capsulize the history and culture of the society. Terms like hieroglyphics and emojis refer to systems of writing in which pictures and symbols represent ideas and sounds. This paper will examine four writing systems of ancient and modern societies that utilize pictures. Each of the writing systems used pictures along with letters. In some societies, pictorial uses were reserved for the societyââ¬â¢s elite, but recently, the use of pictures as primary text has become more main stream. Throughout time, society s use of pictures and symbols has transitioned from a more formal to informal method of written communication, however, it has still maintain its primary purpose. Ancient Egypt Hieroglyphics was one of the first writing systems to employ pictures. Hieroglyphics was derived from the Egyptian expression ââ¬Å"godââ¬â¢s words.â⬠First developed in Egypt around 3000 B.C., the system continued to be used for inscriptions on monuments, wall paintings, and religious texts until the A.D. 300s. Report on how to educate Gifted and Talented Children Free Essays
string(190) " It is thus typical that ââ¬Ëdoubly exceptionalââ¬â¢ children, those with both high ability and special educational needs, are not taught at a level commensurate with their intellectual needs\." 1. Introduction to Gifted and Talented In order to understand how a teacher is to educate gifted and talented children it is necessary for them to comprehend exactly what is meant by ââ¬ËGifted and Talentedââ¬â¢. What is it that makes a gifted and talented child different from those around themIt is this question that is highly debated amongst educationalists and professionals alike. We will write a custom essay sample on Report on how to educate Gifted and Talented Children or any similar topic only for you Order Now Robinson and Campbell (2010) suggest that ââ¬Ëthe education of students identified as gifted and talented, let alone the identification process itself, is highly controversialââ¬â¢ because they suggest that it ââ¬Ëis seen as variously as elitist, divisive and educationally exclusiveââ¬â¢(Robinson and Campbell: 2010: ix). They go on to say that ââ¬Ëin addition to the theoretical arguments about the extent of heritability and measurement of ability, there areâ⬠¦.debates about the extent of giftedness in the population, and therefore the size of the group which education policy and practice should focusââ¬â¢ (Robinson and Campbell: 2010: 11) Ostensibly, there are two main official definitions of what makes a gifted and talented individual. Firstly, there is the Marland Report (1972) in the USA, which gives the following as definition: ââ¬ËGifted and talented children are those identified by professionally qualified persons who by professionally qualified persons who, by virtue of outstanding abilities, are capable of high performance. These are children who require differential educational programs and/or services beyond those provided by the regular school program in order to realize their contribution to self and the societyââ¬â¢ (Tunnicliffe: 2010: 17). Similarly, the English educational system regards giftedness in terms of potential (Tunnicliffe: 2010: 23). For many years now, the English education system has been using various educationalistsââ¬â¢ views on what these multiple intelligences are and has based its education policies upon these concepts. One of the psychological bases that is utilized is derived from Howard Gardnerââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËMultiple Intelligencesââ¬â¢ theory. The theoretical basis for this theory was that rather than have one concept of intelligence as previously conceived, Gardner (1993) suggested: A more pluralistic notion of intelligence in order to account for individualsââ¬â¢ diverse abilities both to pursue various forms of knowledge and to create new onesâ⬠¦the theory of multiple intelligences suggests that individuals are capable of cognitive functioning in several relatively autonomous areas (Gardner: 2005: no page number given) This suggests that gifted and talented individuals differ from other children in the way that they take on the learning of various talents, abilities and types of knowledge both in the pursuit of being better at something as well as learning new things. It is suggested that this forms the basis of the concept of gifted and talented. 2. The Challenge for Teachers With regards to the teaching of gifted and talented individuals teachers and educationalists alike see it as a challenge to teach them for various reasons. One challenge is for teachers especially to differentiate between the concepts of ââ¬Ëfixedââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëfluidââ¬â¢ intelligence when teaching their students. Smith (2010) suggests that it is important to note this difference as well as to ascertain parentsââ¬â¢ and the pupilsââ¬â¢ own concept of what intelligence is. Knowing this difference would affect the ways in which teachers interact and educate individuals in their classroom. It would also inform and underpin any teaching strategies used as any resources utilized. Moreover, teachers need to know how to ascertain the gifted and talented element within their class. Once the teacher knows the gifted and talented element in their class it is essential that the teacher fulfills their needs also. For the teacher, this would mean maintaining an inclusive classroom that fits everybodyââ¬â¢s needs. However, inclusive education within the classroom is only one option of many others which all have the goal of striving to meet the needs of the Gifted and Talented pupil. Moltzen (2005) maintains that there have essentially been: Three primary approaches: segregation, acceleration and inclusion. Many schools and teachers combine approaches. For example, those advocating for an inclusive approach would generally maintain that within this context, gifted and talented students should be permitted to work at an accelerated pace. Many supporters of segregation maintain that the gifted and talented should have exposure to more inclusive situations from time to time. Those arguing for the advanced placement of gifted and talented students will concede that this context may not be appropriate for every area of every accelerated studentââ¬â¢s education (Smith: 2005: 42). These approaches, as Moltzen (2005) argues, are sometimes combined especially in secondary education. However, Moltzen (2005) purposefully argues for the inclusive classroom: As an effective primary environment for gifted and talented students. Frequentlyâ⬠¦.the inclusive or regular classroom is viewed as the default option: the option that is not really an option because it represents the status quo (Moltzen: 2005: 42) In other words, inclusion of students with special abilities within the classroom is seen as not really catering for whatever their needs are by some education experts. Their arguments seem to suggest that the inclusive classroom is ââ¬Ëmore restrictive for those with special abilitiesââ¬â¢ (Moltzen: 2005: 42) because they are not being used to their fullest extent. However, teaching professionals and educationalists alike both know that the way to get over the hurdle of restricting Gifted and Talented children is to differentiate lessons and activities either by outcome or by the level of the work set. In this way, teachers are in a position to engage everybody in the classroom across the whole spectrum of needs and abilities. It is important to note also that pupils who are gifted and talented in one subject area also have other SEN which hamper them in other departments and subjects. Autistic children and those with dyspraxia often have heightened abilities and inclinations in other areas. This phenomenon of double exceptionality can also have an impact upon how the school and the teacher approach the education of the individual child. Montgomery (2005) states that the difficulty is because: When remedial education is considered, the difficulties of highly able students often do not seem severe enough because their needs are masked. It is thus typical that ââ¬Ëdoubly exceptionalââ¬â¢ children, those with both high ability and special educational needs, are not taught at a level commensurate with their intellectual needs. You read "Report on how to educate Gifted and Talented Children" in category "Essay examples" In some cases attention is directed only to the special need. The result is that many of those doubly exceptional children underfunction as the expectations of their teachers are set too low and the curriculum provision is intellectually inadequate (Smith: 2005: 179) In other words the needs of those with exceptional abilities as well as other SEN such as dyslexia often have their strengths and abilities overlooked because the focus is often upon their other needs related to their SEN. The question therefore remains as to how teachers can overcome this obstacle in making sure that those who are exceptionally talented and gifted are accommodated for without disengaging other members of the class. As well as this, it is essential for the teacher and the school in question to accommodate for the pupilââ¬â¢s other special educational needs as well as the giftedness of the individual. 3.Varied Teaching Methods Smith (2005) explains that an individual teacherââ¬â¢s teaching methods are often an indication of several factors. Smith (2005) suggests that: Teachersââ¬â¢ attitudes and dispositions towards the idea of inclusion are closely connected to their own teaching methods, which often reflect how they were taught as students and trained as teachers. Where teaching is very much underpinned by an age/stage approach, where curricula are rigidly prescribed for specific grade/year level text books form a large percentage of the curriculum content, teachers often find the idea of catering for individual differences an anathemaâ⬠¦.An attitude that appears to pervade many schools and classrooms is that dedicated provision for the gifted and is discretionary rather than mandatory (Smith: 2005: 47). There are several issues here regarding this type of SEN provision which are both related to how the educational establishment approach the teaching of the gifted and talented. It has been said by some educational scholars that even though differentiated learning benefits everyone in the classroom it does not mean that gifted learners are benefitting from that kind of education. Heacox and Wormell (2010) maintains that: There is a misconception in some schools that if classroom teachers differentiate in general, the needs of gifted and academically talented students are automatically taken care of. It is true that gifted and talented students are being better served in differentiated classroomsâ⬠¦..However, there are significant differences between how we differentiate for all and how we need to differentiate for gifted learners (Heacox and Wormell: 2005: 136) It could be argued that the reason behind the difference between differentiation for all and the type of differentiation for gifted learners is the fact that even those who are gifted and talented have their own learning styles and other SEN as well. In turn, this makes them all unique so their education has to be just as unique and personalized as well 4. Suggestions for Gifted and Talented Extension Activities for Literacy To illustrate this fact it is necessary to make suggestions for activities which would include gifted and talented learners within the lesson. One way of developing this type of inclusion for the gifted and talented in particular and the class in general is to encourage them to take responsibility for their own learning. Bates and Munday (2006) suggest that highly talented pupils be encouraged to utilise metacognition (thinking about thinking) and self-evaluation. Bates and Munday (2006) state that doing so would encourage them to: Self evaluate and to monitor their own thinking in increasingly sophisticated ways. They need to be encouraged to do this; to see the importance of perseverance and of applying new skills creatively in different circumstancesâ⬠¦.They (also) need to learn how to learn, and should be given every opportunity to experience a range of different strategies for thinking through and even around the obstacles to success, rather than achieving success effortlessly (Bates and Munday: 2005: 42). Such strategies of self-evaluation include such things as learning journals as well as concept/mind maps. In the case of a learning journal this gives the child learner to express what they learned that day as well as how the felt about. Concept/mind maps give them a way of quickly noting down and making sense of the information that they receive. Ishikawa Diagrams An alternative to mindmapping is the use of Ishikawa (or fishbone) diagrams. These are especially appropriate for secondary school but can also be used in primary schools in a simplified form Interactive Resources There are a number of interactive resources available online either free or for a nominal fee to the school. Amongst these resources is a site called Real Lives (available at www.educationalsimulations.com) which, as the website www.brightonline.gov.uk says, is deemed appropriate for those who are secondary school age but is also something that any gifted and talented pupil can use who are 8 and above. This is due to ââ¬Ëthe level of language involved and the interpretation of dataââ¬â¢ (www.brightonline.gov.uk). As a lesson resource it can be easily assimilated into a KS2 lesson about different cultures for all abilities. Moreover, this can be used as an extension activity for those who are most able. Conclusion These are just examples as to how the gifted and talented can be catered for while still being in the same classroom as other children. It could be said that it becomes easier for the teacher once those who are gifted and talented are identified as such as the teacher can feel that they can engage them more. However, it has also been stated that teachers should be engaging their classes anyway through a variety of stimuli and teaching resources that they could use. Payment For Environmental Service
Question: Discuss about thePayment For Environmental Service. Answer: Introduction: Laos is a beautiful landlocked country situated in the southeastern part of Asia. It consists of mountain ranges and various rivers drain the land. This country is financially less stable and mainly depends upon the investments made by the foreign organizations. The dams supported by the international organizations are in their turn harming the natural environment of the Laos and affecting the livelihood of the local people. Hence a policy for payment for the environmental service is required to substantiate the losses faced by the local population and at the same time maintain the ecological balance (Nguyen and Tenhunen 2013). Nam Theun 2 Dam has adopted the policy of PES by World Bank and has attained success. The report would portray the importance of the policy, the planning as well as the how the policy will work. Importance of the PES: PES is a policy that helps to provide incentives to the landowners and other stakeholders whose properties are utilized by beneficiaries for various purposes. Local inhabitants of Laos are not financially stable. As a result, they depend on forest resources for the primary reason for their livelihood. The dams maintained by the foreign organizations under permission from the government are destroying the forests and its resources resulting in some associated disadvantages. Construction and maintenance of dams have led to deforestation of a huge number of trees. Degradation of forests has, in turn, resulted in disruption of the water cycle that has changed the rainfall records (Arriagada et al. 2012). Erosion has been another harmful effect resulted from deforestation. Thus, certain policies should be introduced about payment for service for managing the damages and to maintain a stable use and balance of environmental resources (Mayrand and Paquin 2016). This revenue would help in re-establishing the environment and would assist the local people to lead a better life financially and physically. Payment for Environmental Service: Making of a Policy While constructing the policy of the PES certain criteria like the resource stabilization and reviving the balance of the ecological structure have to be kept in mind. The policy should include the correct estimation of the incentives that should be provided to the provider of the service from the buyer (Mahanty, Suich and Tacconi 2016). The forest owners who have leased their lands to the foreign organization should demand the correct fund from the purchaser from which about 0.2 to 5% of the fund would be allotted for the resource reconstruction. The estimation should be apt and justified. For correct calculation, a model should be proposed. Professionals should work with the models and assign the right percentage of the fund to be received by the forest owners, the organization handling the resource construction work and the governmental associations (Wunder 2013). The next concern would involve the control of the misuse of the resources by the suppliers. The extent of their area, the list of activities allowed on the associated land and the overuse of the resources for the increase of their productivity should be controlled and restricted (Kroeger 2013). As a high amount of local inhabitants mainly live by agricultural activities, a certain portion of the profit and income should be assigned to them who could have otherwise used the land on lease for their livelihood. Moreover concerned should be raised about the cost of relocalisation of the poor people, who have been forced to move away from the land, by appointing a certain percentage to involve them in the power plant. A certain group of organization would be assigned with the task of reforestation activities and maintain a report of the revival of the atmospheric output after reforestation. Act should be passed for prevention of cutting of trees without further delay from the authority All the above mentioned proposals should be considered by the governing authority and should be given the designations of laws. These policies should be discussed thoroughly among the governing officials, and the pros and cons should be judged. The laws should be quickly assigned to prevent further degradation of the flora, and complete results are to be ascertained. Process of Working the ESP: Once the entire policy of the Environmental Service Payment gets a green flag by the governing medium after a detailed discussion, implementation of the laws and ethics should be immediately undertaken. The first step would include proper learning of the suppliers and the local inhabitants of the area. Once they get to know about the importance of the exploited resources, the policy makers will conclude the laws and the rules, every of the stakeholders has to follow (Nasi, Wunder and Campos 2016). The displaced local inhabitants would fix an appointment with the authority to claim the monetary aid that is proposed by the law. In the case of the supplier and beneficiary, a complete agreement should be prepared for the fractions of the financial splits that would take place between them (Muradian et al. 2013). They should revise the agreement and then only further planning would be executed. The act of protection of the flora will contain the appoint of an environmentalist team who wou ld govern the damages caused by the activities of the power plant and instruction of the steps to follow. Assessing the damage already caused, they would estimate the fund required for the recovery of the loosened soil and reforestation. This fund should include the manpower as well as the different other expenses associated with the project undertaken. They should also make an estimation of how to achieve the proper amount of funds from the stakeholders and proper duration required for the project. The incentives which would be provided to the suppliers or the forest land owners from the beneficiaries should be critically judged and decided so that neither the suppliers nor the portion reaching the environmentalists become disadvantageous (Leimona et al. 2015). All the pros and cons from every aspect of the laws and acts to be passed would require proper analysis, judgments and approvals from all the stakeholders. Strict punishment should be allotted against any offence for each la ws and proper monitoring should be provided. Conclusion: From assessing the various damages caused by the hydropower projects in Laos and the monetary crisis faced by the locals of Laos, one can certainly ascertain the importance of the introduction of the PES. Implementation of the PES is believed to be helpful for the people of Laos for they can expect a pretty good amount of income from the projects as well as maintain the beautiful picturesque nature of their country as well. Balanced Scorecard Facilities Management free essay sample
International Shared Services and Outsourcing Advisory Using a balanced scorecard to help measure facilities management performance by Steve Silen, Director, KPMG Advisory Services For nearly 20 years, leading organizations have been using balanced scorecards to strategically measure the financial and non-financial performance of different operational functions within their firms. More recently, they have begun leveraging them to measure the performance of their third-party service providers. In the facilities management (FM) function, use of a balanced scorecard enables companies to evaluate the performance of their external providers against multiple criteria (see Figure 1), help set alignment and focus, identify improvement opportunities, enhance performance reporting, and conduct constructive discussions with their FM providers. Sample balanced scorecard (1 ââ¬â best, 5 ââ¬â worst) Evaluation Criteria Cost Customer Satisfaction Service Delivery EHS Performance Compliance Innovation/Continuous Improvement Weight 35 20 20 10 10 5 100 Evaluation Comments Costs were slightly under budget Score based on customer satisfaction survey All SLA requirements were met There were a couple of safety incidents in the cafeteria No fines or violations No initiatives were implemented Weighted Score Score 2 2 1 4 3 5 2. 25 In a sense, the balance scorecard process for FM service providers should be similar to the way in which individual performance is handled ââ¬â expectations are set, measures to evaluate performance are established, performance is monitored and discussed throughout the year, corrective measures are implemented, and performance is formally documented. ââ¬Å"Just as organizations want their employees to achieve the highest level of performance, they should want the same from their FM service providers. Although there is no set format for balanced scorecards, and they vary from company to company, Figure 1 demonstrates elements many organizations include in those for their FM service providers: â⬠¢ Evaluation criteria ââ¬â areas measured (e. g. , cost, customer satisfaction, service delivery, safety performance) â⬠¢ Weight placed on each criterion (i. e. , different % for each criterion, totaling 100%) â⬠¢ Evaluation comments ââ¬â favorable as well as areas for improvement â⬠¢ Evaluation score (e. g. , 1-5 scale) for each criterion and a total weighted score. Note: Evaluation criteria and weights are for illustrative purposes only Shared Services and Outsourcing Advisory / August 2012 à © 2012 KPMG International Cooperative (ââ¬Å"KPMG Internationalâ⬠). KPMG International provides no client services and is a Swiss entity with which the independent member firms of the KPMG network are affiliated. NDPPS 104414. SSOA 6245. When to use a balanced scorecard A balanced scorecard should be prepared for each FM service provider only when it makes good business sense to do so, e. g. , when the amount of FM spend is significant, services are frequently performed, or when the provider works on-site full-time. The balanced scorecard approach works extremely well for companies that operate under an integrated facilities management (IFM) ââ¬â wherein some FM services are selfperformed by one service provider while others are handled by firms with which it has partnered, all in an integrated manner model ââ¬â because of the multiple service lines and the breadth of the providerââ¬â¢s responsibilities. But it is also very valuable for firms that do not operate under an IFM model. To view year-on-year balanced scorecard trends and determine if performance is improving or not, organizations often use graphics (see Figure 2). Sample score graph Specific evaluation criteria Cost While all firms track actual costs, they should also evaluate cost performance at a more detailed level with weights and scoring definitions assigned to each sub-category to ensure cost-effective service delivery. Figure 3 on the next page is an example of a balanced scorecard for cost. Many organizations find it useful to assess costs not only in aggregate, as in the above example, but also by type of expense. This enables them to zoom in on specific expenses such as maintenance or energy/utilities, and have meaningful discussions with their providers about whether their expectations are being met. Customer satisfaction Measuring the satisfaction level of those receiving FM services is another critical part of the process. Organizations should use a variety of methods to obtain input directly from their internal customers, including periodic email surveys (e. g. , annual/ semi-annual/upon completion of a service), online or paper suggestion boxes, administrative assistant feedback sessions and # of complaints received. A detailed scorecard, similar to the one in the cost category, should be established to measure customer satisfaction. All of these are excellent ways to ââ¬Å"hear the voice of the customerâ⬠and identify areas for improvement. Yet care should be taken to develop and administer surveys that capture relevant information without being a burden to complete, and that feedback sessions do not keep participants away from their jobs for too long. Service delivery Proper operational performance is ensured only when providers meet or surpass firmsââ¬â¢ service delivery expectations. Thus, organizations should implement a detailed scorecard to assess service delivery performance for each service line. For example, in the maintenance category, the detailed scorecard may look like the example in Figure 4 on the next page and Figure 5 shows an example of a detailed scorecard for food services. Similar to the scorecard examples, organizations should establish detailed scorecards for their other outsourced service lines, such as janitorial services, call center and mailroom. Figure 2 Evaluation criteria ââ¬â the basics The evaluation criteria on the balanced scorecard should be tailored for each category (e. g. , cost, customer satisfaction, service delivery, etc. ) as well each major service line (e. g., janitorial services, food services, maintenance, etc. ) and the weight should vary to reflect the importance of each criterion to the organization. Firms typically establish scoring definitions and the means by which the scores will be calculated to minimize subjectivity and provide clarity on how performance will be measured. While some organizations use highly detailed scorecard s to thoroughly evaluate each criterion, the ââ¬Å"rightâ⬠level of detail for any given firm is dependent on multiple variables including that there is a credible and easy process by which to obtain the necessary information.

At the end of the play, Nora realizes that all she is, is a doll in his house and questions whether Dorval really loves her or not. In the beginning Of the Story, Nora seems happy. 7 Common Spanish Pronunciation Mistakes
7 Common Spanish Pronunciation Mistakes Few things are more frustrating for someone learning a foreign language than to not be understood by a native speaker. If you want to make a good impression when speaking Spanish, here are seven common pronunciation mistakes English speakers make that you can avoid. You can learn to avoid these common errors, and your Spanish-speaking friendsà will know that at least youre making an effort. Turning the R Into Mush Lets get the most difficult letter for English speakers out of the way first! Heres the basic rule: Never pronounce the Spanish r as if it were English. Think of it as a different letter of the alphabet that just happens to be written the same as the English one. Spanish has two r sounds. The simple r sound, which youll hear more often, is close to the dd sound in paddle or the tt in little. So the common word mero (mere) sounds much like meadow, not marrow. That wasnt hard, was it? The other r sound, often called the rr sound because rr was once considered a separate letter of the alphabet, is used for rr and when r appears at the beginning of a sentence or a word by itself. The rr sound is a brief trill and does take some effort to master. You might think of it as the front of your tongue flapping against the roof of the mouth in a strong breeze, or perhaps the sounds of a cat purring or a motorboat revving. Once you figure it out, it can be a fun sound to make. Turning the U Into a Different Vowel The u sound is never like the u in fuse, but, or push. When it doesnt come in combination with another vowel, its like the oo sound in moo, which appropriately is spelled mu in Spanish. So uno (one) sounds something like OO-noh and uniforme (uniform) sounds something like oo-nee-FOR-meh. Like the other Spanish vowels, u has a pure and distinct sound. When the u comes before another vowel, the u glides into the following vowel and ends up sounding something like the English w. Thus cuenta (account) sounds something like KWEN-tah, and cuota sounds fairly close to the cognate quota. And that brings up another point: After the q, the u is silent unless a dieresis is added to make it à ¼. Thus quince (the number 15) sounds like KEEN-seh. But with the dieresis, the u carries the w sound. Thus pingà ¼ino (penguin) is pronounced something like peeng-GWEEN-oh. Giving the G and J Their Sound in ââ¬ËJudgeââ¬â¢ In English, the g generally has the j sound when g is followed by e or i. The same pattern is true in Spanish, but the j sound also used in the ge and gi combinations is much different. English speakers usually approximate it with the English h sound, although native Spanish speakers in most regions often give it a harsher, more guttural sound. Youll be perfectly understandable if you pronounce gente as HEN-teh and jugo (juice) as HOO-goh. Buzzing the Z The z of Spanish isnt pronounced with the z sound of words such as buzz and zoo. In Latin America, it generally sounds like the English s, while in most of Spain its like the th in thin. So if youre headed to the zoo, think soh in Latin America and thoh in Spain. Pronouncing the B and V as Different Letters Once upon a time, Spanish had distinct sounds for the B and V. But no more - they sound exactly the same and thus often pose a spelling challenge for native speakers. The sound is something like a buzzing sound with the two lips when b or v comes between two vowels and something like a soft English b at other times. You may look at words such as tubo (tube) and tuvo (a form of tener) and think of them as sounding different, but in fact they sound alike. Sounding Out the H How do you pronounce the h? In a word, dont. Except in a very few words of foreign origin such as hmster and hockey, the h is silent. Failing To Keep the L Distinct Listen carefully, and you may notice that the first l of little has a different sound than the second l. The first is formed with the tongue against the roof of the palate, while the second one isnt. The key rule in pronouncing the Spanish l is that it has sound of the first l in little. Thus the l has the same sound in mal as it does in malo and mala (all of them meaning bad). In other words, mal does not sound like mall. The doubled l or ll used to be considered a separate letter of the alphabet. Although its pronunciation varies with region, you wont go wrong to give it the sound of the y in yet. Thus calle (street) sounds similar to KAH-yeh. Key Takeaways When pronouncing Spanish words, remember that the pronunciation rules of English dont always apply.Among the letters that Spanish pronounces much differently than English does are g (sometimes), h, l (sometimes), r, u (usually), v, and z.The repeated letter pairs ll and rr have pronunciations that are distinct from the same letter appearing individually.
